June 2006
Here are two movies I saw recently that I really liked.
If you’re looking for a hilarious movie with an interesting plot, I suggest the first. As I said to my sister, I couldn’t decide who was funnier, Robert Downey Jr. or Val Kilmer. Michelle Monaghan, most recently in MI:III, was much better in this movie. The last few minutes get’s pretty absurd but, overall, it was great.
Running Scared was very Tarantinoesque. . .but a little less weird for the sake of being weird. For once, Paul Walker doesn’t play a dim surfer type. His performance in this movie makes you wonder if it’s even the same actor. My favorite character in this movie is the woman who play’s his wife, Vera Farmiga. From her filmography, it seems I haven’t really seen her in anything else, but it feels like I have — she bears striking resemblance to Claire Forlani. Same dark hair, light eyes, bony face. LOVED her in this movie. Warning: if you don’t like violence and language, run the other way. .but it’s original and very entertaining.
So I saw Doom, the computer game turned movie last night. It was far down on my Blockbuster Online queue and there was a long wait for some of my top choices. I got it over 2 weeks ago and just didn’t want to watch it. So last night, after resolving to return it -watched or unwatched- I decided to pop it in.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It was very entertaining. I didn’t play the game that much so I’m not a purist, and my expectations were very low, but it was really fun. Even though the plot line revolved around some egregious pseudo-science, it didn’t ruin it for me. Looking for some mindless action without cheesy dialogue? Pick it up sometime.
I’m in hell today. It’s one of those days when nothing goes right at work and it takes all of your will power not to blow up at people who really deserve it. I also have the problem that I am never able to quite leave work at work. It always follows me home and I stew over it all night. Anyone have any good tricks on how to decompress after a really bad day?
Yesterday, June 5th was our first wedding anniversary! We got many phone calls yesterday from people who attended the wedding. Thanks everyone! We actually have two anniversaries because we had two ceremonies (Indian and American). So yesterday we went to the Bombay House for dinner to celebrate the Indian ceremony (delicious!). ..and then went out to a movie. The next first anniversary will be next Sunday, June 11th. A steak dinner is on the schedule for the second celebration. Amazing how time flies!
Here’s the Nike Free running shoe I designed for myself!

Unfortunately, the price of personalization is that it takes a month to come in. Thanks to my sister, Richa. I applied the gift certificate she got me for Christmas to this purchase.
