Since the Oscars are coming up, I thought this would be a good time to put up my favorite 10 movies of 2007. There are still quite a few I want to see, but these are my favorites that I’ve seen.

  2. There Will be Blood
  3. 3:10 to Yuma
  4. A Mighty Heart
  5. The Kingdom
  6. Mr. Brooks
  7. 300
  8. Superbad
  9. I Am Legend
  10. Stardust

Book Recommendations Please!

I usually only read for pleasure in the few minutes before I go to bed and while waiting in line somewhere, but I go through a surprising number of books this way.  I am close to finishing Stephen King’s latest book, Duma Key, and am looking for a new book to pick up.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Unintentional Marketing

Many of you have seen (Product)RED items available (iPods, Motorola Razrs, Armani watches, American Express cards etc.).  A portion of the product red proceeds go toward helping women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.  The Gap has come out with a line of T-shirts that have various “-reds” printed on them such as inspi(red), empowe(red), and ado(red).  Recently, when looking at pictures on a friend’s Facebook page, I saw her and a bunch of her friends (all Indians) wearing a desi(red) tees.  For those of you who don’t know, a “desi” is a term meaning “of the homeland” and is usually used to refer to people from India.  “Des” or “Desh” in many Indian languages means “country”.  So when I saw this shirt on a bunch of Indians, I thought it was very clever—a short, sweet logo that symbolizes Indians supporting amelioration of AIDS in Africa.  While this appears to be completely unintentional by GAP Inc. (in the advertisement, the desi(red) T-shirt is being worn by Penelope Cruz), I still think it looks weird when I see non-Indians wearing it.

Got 3 Hours to Spare?

We just saw There Will Be Blood tonight.   I have a hard time believing anyone can beat out Daniel Day Lewis for the best actor Oscar(he did win the Golden Globe).   I never read the book upon which this was based, Upton Sinclair’s Oil!, so I’m not sure if his character was so well written, or if it was the uncommon talent of Lewis bringing it to life.  At 2 hours and 38 minutes, you must have quite a bit of stamina to get through it, but the time passes quickly enough.  Highly recommended, but I think it will be just as great on video.

Go Giants!

In one of the biggest upsets in superbowl history, the 12 point underdog NY Giants beat the 18-0 New England Patriots.  If you missed it, check out the NFL Replay of the game on the NFL Network on Wednesday.  While Eli Manning received the MVP award, I think it’s clear that the entire Giants defense were the true MVPs.  With 5 sacks and countless hits on Tom Brady, the Pats were never really able to execute the way they had planned.  I’m happy for NY and all their fans.  Go Giants!
